Prayer

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 – Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Prayer is talking to God about everything. We can pray by speaking, thinking, breathing, moving our bodies, or sitting in silence. Prayer is a two-way communication with God. When we first start praying to God we do much of the talking, but as we pray more and more we can begin to recognize God’s voice and God’s answers. And ultimately, we can pray simply to be with God in a companionable silence just as long-time friends can sit quietly and enjoy one another’s company. Prayer is also intercessory. That’s a fancy word for saying that we can also pray to God for other people – pray on their behalf and out of concern for them. We often do this when someone is ill, grieving, unemployed, battling addiction or going through some other kind of tough time.
